More than 80 representatives of companies from the renewable energy sector in Navarre were present yesterday at the plenary session organised by Enercluster to learn about the reality and prospects of the wind energy sector from the partner company Siemens Gamesa, which was responsible for giving the thematic talks.
Susana Errasti, Head of Procurement South Europe & Africa at Siemens Gamesa, opened the day with a presentation in which she spoke mainly about the company’s relationship with strategic suppliers, from whom she demanded excellence in performance and initiatives in the field of sustainability. He also highlighted the company’s interest in establishing alliances that favour the joint success of all parties.
The session continued with a presentation by Naiara Doblas, Engineering Team Lead in Offshore Execution, also from Siemens Gamesa, who detailed some of the key aspects of the company’s offshore business. In her presentation, she outlined some of the challenges to be faced, such as the need to manufacture larger wind turbines, the approval of ports, cost reduction, process digitalisation and the promotion of sustainability actions to reduce environmental impact. He invited supplier companies to offer proposals in this regard.
Wood MacKenzie study for Enercluster
Josep Fàbregas, Managing Consultant Power & Renewables at Wood Mackenzie, then took the floor to present the most relevant conclusions of the study on the competitiveness of the sector commissioned by the cluster. The study shows a complicated reality for the renewable energy industry in Navarre, and in Europe in general, which is progressively reducing its position in the market, mainly due to fierce competition from Chinese companies.
After some words by Iker Chasco in which he detailed the activity of the cluster with different organizations to try to reverse this reality, the plenary session continued with a participatory round table in which, in a relaxed and close atmosphere, all attendees exchanged their views on the current situation of the wind energy sector and shared their common problems. Ana Goyen, president of Enercluster, closed the meeting by stressing that regional, Spanish and European institutions must take effective and urgent measures to protect a strategic sector such as the renewable energy sector from unfair competition from some Chinese companies.
