RenerCycle consolidates with its first major wind decommissioning contract in Spain

The Navarre-based company RenerCycle, associated with ENERCLUSTER, has been selected by the German energy company RWE to carry out the complete dismantling of the Muel wind farm in Zaragoza. This is its first major contract and marks a key milestone in its trajectory as a benchmark in circular economy applied to the wind energy sector. The project involves the dismantling of 27 turbines with a combined capacity of 16.2 MW, in operation since 1998, which will be replaced by three modern turbines of 6.6 MW each, thus reaching a total capacity of 19.8 MW. During the various phases of implementation, the project will employ 35 people and is scheduled to be completed before the end of the year. RenerCycle will be responsible for the reuse, reconditioning and recycling of the wind farm components. An estimated 1,350 parts will be reconditioned for use in other RWE wind farms and 1,825 tonnes of ferrous materials will be recovered. In addition, 95% of the materials will be recycled, including the 81 blades that will be processed in the innovative Waste2Fiber plant, driven by Acciona and RenerCycle in Lumbier. This pioneering facility, based on thermal technology, will recycle composite materials and reintroduce the fibres into new industrial applications. The project represents an outstanding example of circularity, and reinforces RenerCycle’s commitment to progress towards ZeroWaste in the wind industry.
Enercluster at WindEurope 2025: Navarre’s industry facing the European wind energy challenges

Enercluster’s participation as organiser of the grouped stand together with five associated companies – Barranquesa, EPER, Erekaldea, Fluitecnik and Nabrawind – has highlighted the commitment and capacity of the Navarre wind energy industry to face the current challenges of the European energy sector. During the event, held from Aprin 8th to 10th in Copenhagen, which brought together more than 16,000 participants and 550 stands, crucial issues such as the need to accelerate the permitting of new wind projects, the expansion and modernisation of electricity grids, the electrification of industry and the decarbonisation of the supply chain were addressed. These have proven to be key to achieving Europe’s climate and energy security goals. Offshore takes centre stage While this year’s event addressed a wide range of critical issues for the industry, the real focus was on offshore wind. The need to accelerate the deployment of both floating and fixed offshore wind farms was high on the agenda, with discussions focusing on how to scale up the necessary infrastructure, reduce logistical costs and ensure the environmental compatibility of new developments. It was emphasised that offshore is not only a key source of clean energy, but also a strategic opportunity to create jobs, re-industrialise coastal regions and strengthen Europe’s competitiveness vis-à-vis Asia or the United States. In addition, the urgency of advancing in the decarbonisation of the wind energy supply chain has been highlighted. Collaboration between manufacturers, logistics operators, ports and suppliers will be essential to reduce emissions at all stages of production, from components to the installation and operation of wind farms. The Navarre delegation insisted on the importance of having a solid, agile and efficient supply chain, capable of responding to the needs of a Europe that is seeking to accelerate its energy transition. The experience and technological capacity of Navarre’s companies places them in a strategic position within the European context. ‘The collaboration between companies in Navarra and their presence at international events such as WindEurope 2025 strengthen our position in the European market and underline our commitment to a sustainable, competitive and industrially sound energy transition,’ Enercluster said. The fair was an opportunity to establish new alliances, share learning and vindicate the role of regional industrial ecosystems – such as that of Navarre – in the major European objectives of decarbonisation, energy sovereignty and sustainable economic development. Renewables in Navarra contributed 68% of electricity generation in 2024

Red Eléctrica has published the electricity generation data for 2024, enabling ENERCLUSTER to share its perspective on the progress of the renewable sector in Navarra. The year 2024 was marked by a significant decline in electricity generation in the Autonomous Community of Navarra. According to data published by Red Eléctrica, total electricity production in 2024 amounted to 6,468 GWh, representing a 10% drop compared to 2023. Combined cycle gas plants experienced the largest reduction in generation, falling by more than 40% compared to 2023 and accumulating a 66% decline since 2022, whereas hydropower increased by 38%. Regarding modern renewables, wind power increased its production by 11%, while solar photovoltaic saw a slight decline compared to 2023. The growth of wind energy, combined with the overall decrease in total generation, resulted in this technology accounting for 50.5% of Navarra’s electricity mix. In total, renewables contributed over two-thirds of Navarra’s electricity in 2024, the highest figure since 2018. The environmental benefits are evident, as the 3,562 GWh generated by wind and solar energy in Navarra prevented the emission of 1,318,000 tonnes of CO2 (had this energy been generated using combined cycle gas), equivalent to the emissions of 636,000 cars over an entire year. Comparing Navarra’s progress with national data, it is evident that wind power plays a much greater role in Navarra than at the national level (50.5% versus 23.2%), whereas solar photovoltaic contributes significantly less in Navarra than nationwide (4.6% versus 17%). Some notable figures include February 2024, which recorded the highest wind power generation in Navarra, while April saw the highest coverage at 72%. Solar power reached its peak generation in July and its highest share of the energy mix in May, reaching 8%. In April, overall renewable generation hit its highest level, accounting for more than 91% of the total energy mix. Regarding new capacity installation, only 64 MW of solar power was added in 2024, representing a modest 2% growth in Navarra’s installed generation capacity. It is worth noting that these figures are expected to rise significantly in the coming years, as over 480 MW of wind power and 1,000 MW of solar power are currently under development. In terms of electricity demand, it increased by 2%, reaching 4,751 GWh, leaving Navarra as a net exporter of electricity, as 27% of the electricity produced was not consumed within the region. ENERCLUSTER will continue to closely monitor the evolution of Navarra’s energy mix, driving the development of a renewable, competitive model aligned with the challenges of the energy transition. All data can be consulted on the REE website.

Pamplona, March 20, 2025 – Enercluster presented this Thursday to its partners the main lines of the IV International Congress of the Industry for Energy Transition (CITE25) during the celebration of the conference “One year after the CITE, how have the challenges of the sector evolved?” which brought together prominent leaders of firms such as Nordex, Acciona Energía, Ríos Renovables or Ingeteam in the Pinaquy hall of the Commonwealth of the Region of Pamplona. At the meeting, the dates of this biennial congress, to be held on October 22 and 23 at the Baluarte Conference Center, were announced. It was also announced that a total of 19 companies in the sector have already confirmed their collaboration as sponsors. Specifically, these companies are Nordex-Acciona, Acciona Energía, Laulagun Bearings, Nabrawind, Enhol, Sakana Group, Repsol, ARPA Abogados Consultores, Industrial Barranquesa, Eosol, Ríos Renovables, BeePlanet, IED, Leadernet, Urgon, Renercycle, Statkraft, Arena and Array Technologies. The heads of Enercluster, organizer of CITE25 with the special collaboration of the Government of Navarra, underlined the commitment to the internationalization of the event. Of the 45 top-level speakers who will participate in the event, almost half of them will be international. In this sense, its promoters hope to repeat the success of the previous edition (held in 2023), which was attended by 400 people and included world-class speakers such as Michael Liebreich (founder of Bloomberg NEF and world expert in renewables), or the current Minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Sara Aagesen. Also present were Rafael Mateo (CEO of Acciona Energía), José Luis Blanco (CEO of Nordex and chairman of WindEurope) and Adolfo Rebollo (CEO of Ingeteam), among others. On the other hand, they confirmed that the opening of CITE25 will be in charge of the President of Navarra, María Chivite, while the closing ceremony will be attended by Mikel Irujo, Minister of Industry, Ecological Transition and Digital Business. The purchase of tickets will soon be available on the congresocite.com website and the presentation of the agenda and program will be made after Easter, said its director, Kiko Maza. “We want CITE25 to be the renewable industry event of reference in Spain and for this reason, in this new edition we are committed to strengthening the internationalization of the presentations and putting a clear focus on the challenges of the European renewable industry,” he added. For his part, Aitor Erquicia, president of Enercluster stressed that “the CITE Congress is the main showcase of the renewable sector in Navarra, the main event organized by Enercluster and the most important renewable congress in northern Spain”. “We work very hard to raise the bar edition after edition,” he assured. ROUND TABLE The welcome by Aitor Erquicia served as a preamble for the round table organized by Enercluster this Thursday for challenges of the renewable industry. Among others, important issues such as European legislation to support and promote the sector, competition from China, or storage systems were addressed. Also discussed was how electrification is the key to increasing demand, the future of green hydrogen, or whether the objectives set out in the PNIEC (National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan 2021-2030) will be achieved. All these topics were discussed by Migueltxo Núñez, CTO of Nordex; the director of business development Spain & Portugal of Acciona Energía, Marta Fernández Bordons; David Sola, manager of Ríos Renovables; and the managing director of Wind Energy & Electric H2 of Ingeteam, Jorge Haya. The forum was moderated by Kiko Maza himself. During the round table, the electrification of demand and the protection of the European supply chain were highlighted as pending issues since, in the words of the experts, “legislation and guidelines are in place but there is a lack of ambition and agility to translate them into concrete measures”. Price cannibalization was also discussed, a situation that is not sustainable and can lead to a slowdown in investments. Finally, regarding compliance with the PNIEC, the experts pointed out “that it does not make much sense to encourage more renewable installations if demand and electricity infrastructure do not grow”. In spite of everything, the round table concluded with a message of optimism “We are progressing slowly but in the right direction. The energy transition is unstoppable and Navarra must be one of the industrial engines in Europe”. PARTICIPATIVE ROUND TABLE The event closed with a participatory table where the associates and the speakers shared experiences and perspectives on the situation of the sector and its future. The event served as an appetizer of what will be the CITE25 in October, a congress where international experts will analyze the challenges and opportunities of the renewable sector.
