Lurederra, Foundation for Technological and Social Development

Lurederra, Foundation for Technological and Social Development is a non-profit private organization established in June 1999 by the association of nine private companies, and which currently has more than thirty independent associated entities. Lurederra carries out and promotes applied technological research and development activities in the field of nanotechnology through technologies that can be extended transversally to a multitude of sectors. Lurederra is focus on applied research which can result in the implementation of the innovations developed in the industrial production centers themselves. Lurederra, recognized by the Ministry of Science and Innovation as a Technology Center with number 98 and registered in the registry of technological agents of the Navarrese R&D&I System (SINAI) with number SINAI-004, has achieved an excellent connection with the industrial sector, having carried out since its constitution in 1999 more than four hundred and fifty (450) long-range industrial research and technological development projects, both national and international.

Lurederra counts with the following technology priority areas:

  • Nanotechnology: Lurederra is a reference in the design and synthesis of simple and complex nano-oxides of small size and high purity. The Center has a state-of-the-art pyrolysis nanoparticle production plant with continuous operating capacity of up to 1 kg/h and laboratory-scale facilities (10 to 100 g/h) for R&D activities. In addition, the Center is highly qualified in the physicochemical treatment of nanoparticles for their dispersion and integration, as well as in functionalization and the development of coating technologies and functional surfaces. This includes substrates such as glass, metal, porous and polymers. Among the functionalities developed are water repellency, self-cleaning, anti-corrosion, anti-scratch, conductivity or anti-fouling, among others.
  • Non-metallic materials: Advanced plastic processing. Surface treatment of fibers and mineral nanoparticles. Development of filled polymeric compounds with different properties (antimicrobial, barrier effect, resistance to UV rays, conductivity, biodegradability…), multicomponent systems with controlled response or intelligent sensorized materials.
  • Circular economy: Development of technologies related to the reduction, recycling and revaluation of organic/inorganic waste. Application of new materials such as the purification treatment of gas and wastewater flows.
  • Fine chemistry: Synthesis of organic functional chemical compounds: organic-inorganic coupling agents, intermediate precursors for complex reactions, etc. In addition, Lurederra also works on sustainable chemistry including the development of highly efficient sorbents or selective extraction agents, among others.
