Monday, 15th January 2024. Ana Goyen and Iker Chasco, representing Enercluster, have met with the Regional Minister of Industry and Ecological Transition of the Government of Navarra, Mikel Irujo, and with the Director General of Business Development, Iñigo Arruti, to share first-hand the analysis made by the wind sector in Navarra of the package of measures to support the wind sector published by the European Union in 2023.
The Wind Power Package (WPAP) is a guide with 15 areas in which member states must work to support the wind industry in Europe. This document was ratified on 19 December by EU ministers and more than 300 companies in the sector, so from now on it is up to each member state to implement concrete actions to support the sector.
Enercluster has analysed the WPAP documents and the draft actions proposed by Spain and, after collecting the comments and demands of its members, has drawn up a document with additional proposals to be included in the final document. These additional measures pursue two main objectives: that the aid reaches the entire supply chain and that it is implemented urgently.
During the meeting, the Regional Minister Irujo offered his full support and that of his department to convey these demands to the Ministry with a view to the final drafting of the measures to support the sector in Spain. Both Enercluster and the Government of Navarra have agreed on the criticality and urgency of these measures in view of the complicated situation that the sector is experiencing in Europe and therefore in Navarra, where it should be remembered that the renewable energy industry is the third most important sector in terms of GDP and number of jobs.
According to the president of Enercluster, Ana Goyen, “The WPAP is undoubtedly the greatest European effort to support the wind industry, which is going through a critical situation. But Europe is leading the way and now it is up to each country to come up with specific measures that are effective and quick, and for this we have to work side by side with administrations and industry to achieve the best package of actions”.
