NAITEC and UPNA seek cheaper, more efficient materials to produce hydrogen

NAITEC y la UPNA buscan materiales más baratos y eficientes para producir hidrógeno

NAITEC and the Public University of Navarra (UPNA), both members of Enercluster, are developing the H2 PROD MAT project, focused on improving hydrogen production through alkaline electrolysis, with the aim of increasing the durability of the process and reducing its cost and energy consumption.

The work combines new materials, simulation models and artificial intelligence. NAITEC is developing materials that avoid critical minerals (such as cobalt, lithium or noble metals) and anion exchange membranes, while UPNA is designing new electrocatalysts based on non-noble, non-critical metals. The components will be manufactured using 2D and 3D additive manufacturing.

The project, coordinated by ADItech within the Navarra R&D&I System, is funded by the Government of Navarra through its call for collaborative projects.

With this initiative, Navarra’s technology ecosystem reinforces its commitment to renewable hydrogen as a key vector of the energy transition.
