Enercluster celebra su II Sesión Plenaria, dedicada a la eólica, con la vista puesta en la tecnología, los retos y las oportunidades del sector

Enercluster brought together yesterday in Pamplona 80 people, representing member companies and sector experts, at its 2nd Plenary Session, focused on wind energy.

The session opened with a welcome address by Aitor Erquicia, president of Enercluster, who highlighted the cluster’s commitment to fostering spaces where knowledge and experience are shared in order to grow as a sector and an industry.

The first presentation was given by Migueltxo Núñez Polo, CTO of Nordex, who reviewed the technological evolution of onshore wind. He explained how continuous improvement (higher-power machines, larger rotors and more sophisticated controls) has made it possible to reduce the cost of wind energy and make it fully competitive. Looking ahead, he pointed to standardisation, modularisation and, alongside cost, sustainability (ecodesign, blade recyclability, cybersecurity…) as pillars of development, together with trends such as hybrid plants, taller towers, advanced sensor technology and artificial intelligence.

Next, Juan Virgilio Márquez, Director General of the Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE), addressed the sector’s figures, challenges and opportunities towards 2030. He emphasised that wind is the only technology in which Europe retains the entire industrial value chain, a key asset for its strategic autonomy, and underlined its contribution to employment, exports, territorial development and the stability of electricity prices. Among the opportunities, he highlighted repowering, the electrification of demand and offshore wind.

Naiara Doblas Telletxea, from the Offshore Execution Engineering area of Siemens Gamesa, turned the focus to large-scale offshore wind, from the industrialisation of the technology to the execution of projects. She presented its new 15 MW offshore platform as an “evolution, not revolution”, with recyclable blades as a step forward in sustainability, and detailed the enormous logistical and industrial complexity of manufacturing, transporting and installing large components at sea, as well as the value of standardisation in the sector.

Closing the technical block, Juan Peña, Business Director of Grupo Enhol, shared the real-world experience of repowering three wind farms in Navarra (Caparroso, Serralta and San Gregorio). He described how this renewal makes it possible to produce around 50% more energy while keeping the same grid connection capacity, and focused on two key points: responsible dismantling and the circular economy, with the Navarra-based RenerCycle managing the full cycle of recycling and land restoration, and the importance of integrating into the territory as “one more neighbour”.

With this second plenary session, Enercluster reaffirms its role as a meeting point for Navarra’s renewable sector and its commitment to the value chain of the wind industry, a key piece of the energy transition and of Navarra’s industrial leadership.
