Nordex Electrolyzers, an Enercluster member company, has presented its new pressurised alkaline 2.5 MW electrolyser (NX2500), the largest designed and manufactured in Spain.
The launch event, held on 22 October at the Lumbier testing facility, brought together around fifty representatives from the energy, business and institutional spheres, with the participation of José Luis Blanco, CEO of Nordex Group; Luis Solla, managing director of Nordex Electrolyzers; Mikel Irujo, regional minister for Industry and Green & Digital Transition; and María Chivite, president of the Government of Navarra.
The new NX2500 multiplies the capacity of its predecessor by five and sets a new milestone in the industrial development of green hydrogen, with performance validated under the European IPCEI Hy2Tech framework. It stands out for its modular, scalable design—reaching configurations of up to 10 MW by combining multiple units—and for its energy efficiency under variable renewable generation. This development will help decarbonise hard-to-electrify industrial sectors and reinforce Europe’s energy independence.
José Luis Blanco underlined the project’s strategic importance: “This prototype, designed and validated entirely in Lumbier, demonstrates the technological and industrial capabilities that exist in Navarra and in Europe to lead the new energy era.”
For his part, minister Irujo noted that Sodena’s financial support has been key to enabling this pioneering project, in which public-private collaboration once again acts as a driver of industrial innovation.
Nordex Electrolyzers was created in 2022 as a spin-off of Nordex Energy Spain, with an initial €30 million investment shared between Nordex Group and Sodena, and European funding through the IPCEI Hy2Tech programme. Its goal: to position Navarra as a leading hub for green hydrogen production in southern Europe.
From Enercluster, we congratulate Nordex Electrolyzers and the entire team on this new step forward in the industrialisation of green hydrogen and for their active contribution to positioning Navarra as a leader in innovation and the energy transition.
