Iberdrola, in collaboration with FCC Ámbito, has inaugurated the first industrial facility on the Iberian Peninsula dedicated to the recycling of wind turbine blades, located in Cortes (Navarra) and named EnergyLOOP.
With an investment of €10 million, this plant will be able to recycle up to 10,000 tonnes of composite materials per year (such as fiberglass and resins), equivalent to approximately 5,000 blades. The initiative not only addresses one of the major challenges in the wind energy sector—the end-of-life management of turbine components—but also opens up new opportunities in the circular economy across industries such as aerospace, automotive, construction, and textiles.
The project is expected to generate up to 100 direct and indirect jobs over the next decade, positioning the Ribera region of Navarra as a hub for green innovation.
The launch of EnergyLOOP has been supported by Spain’s national PERTE for Circular Economy program (through IDAE), as well as by the Government of Navarra and Sodena, the regional public development agency.
During the inauguration, María Chivite, President of the Government of Navarra, emphasized that this facility “combines industrial innovation, circular economy, and green energy,” reinforcing the industrial development of southern Navarra. Mario Ruiz-Tagle, CEO of Iberdrola España, stated that EnergyLOOP represents “a new chapter in the circular economy of the renewable energy sector.” Iñigo Sanz, CEO of FCC Ámbito, also highlighted the role of public-private collaboration as a driver of responsible growth.
